I also have some other landscape supplies that I use in my own garden to make my life and gardening easier and more enjoyable.  One of my favorites is my garden knife by Fiskars.  This is one heavy duty piece of equipment.  It is run by muscle, but it does multiple duties as a spade, a weeder, and a mini cultivator.  If I could only have one hand tool this one would be it.

Another favorite of mine is my gardening gloves.  I know this sounds mundane, but I am a wuss and don’t like getting my hands dirty.  My favorite pair of gloves fit closely and have a rubber coating on the front side.  If I am working on my roses then I also like to wear a pair of heavy leather gloves to keep my hands protected from the thorns.

And for trimming up the borders around the house nothing beats a strimmer.  This garden tool is also known as a weed wacker and will save you hours of labor in trimming up the parts of the lawn that your mower misses.

Finally, I couldn’t live without a good pair of pruners.  I have several dogwood bushes (both yellow and red) and find that they grow like crazy.  I am out pruning them about 1 a month in the summer.

Modern landscape equipment is wonderful stuff and it can make your life a whole lot easier.  From a rototiller to a pair of gloves it all helps to make your garden a pleasant place.

• Safety first.  Keep your feet (and hands) away from the blades at all times.
• Use the depth gauge to get the depth of tilling that you want.
• Have a good solid grip on the machine.
• Let the machine do its work – you are there to guide it.
• Overlap the tilling spaces by 4 to 6 inches.

The biggest thing to keep in mind when you are using a rototiller is that if you let it do the work and just guide it and keep it where you want it, that is all there is to it.  It is a lot like running a lawnmower.

Rototillers are great for any type of task that normally requires a shovel to move dirt.  You may still have to shovel some dirt around after using one, but it will have done most of the work for you.  This is one garden tool I wouldn’t live without.
